Whenever I Take – Diamar Club feat. Berni

A new collaboration between Diamar Club and Berni! Whenever I Take is released today, and we'll tell you all about it here!

Today I am very happy to be able to present a song that means a lot to me, both because of the achievement it represents for me to share a song with the public and because Claudia and Lyn, whom I admire so much, are part of this project and whose support has been decisive.

Whenever I Take (Piano House Mix)

Well, I have lots to tell you! But I can’t tell you everything today! So first, here are the links to the streaming services so you can listen to the song wherever you want, and I’ll keep you posted on any updates!

You can also play this video and listen to it while I tell you the story behind this song!

Why Whenever

When I heard Marilyn’s first album, I was surprised how a CD from 2005 could have such a sexy mix of hard electro-clash with chic and sensual house. The album explores very diverse genres, but I didn’t expect to find a gem like Whenever with that soft trance style that, as they say in the genre, is aimed at your mind, body and soul.

When I got hold of the single and listened to the remixes of Whenever, I fell completely in love with the song. Marilyn has such a suggestive voice… soft and sweet, yet so intense at the same time!

When the song was rediscovered by radio stations in 2024, Lyn posted it on YouTube and when she mentioned that she had the separate vocal tracks, I knew I had to make a remix of Whenever!

Why Piano House Mix

When approaching a remix, I like to take the song out of its original context, explore styles that take it out of its comfort zone, and see if I can fit it into something that generates a new reaction.

I started out thinking about an uplifting trance remix, epic and emotional, then I thought about transforming it into an ambient, atmospheric and evocative piece… Both were styles that required slow and lengthy development.

But inspiration struck while I was doing something I don’t usually do: listening to the radio. And amid the usual, ubiquitous reggaeton that fills the charts in Spain, a young Uruguayan woman named Emilia appeared. Her song ‘La_Original’ was inspired by early 2000s dance music, but with a more contemporary, direct and uninterrupted structure.

And then I thought about doing something more danceable. I wanted the vocals to be the main focus, but in my life, the 90s weigh more heavily, so all doubts were cleared away. I would make a remix that mixed those sounds I had grown up with, the ones that meant something to me, the ones that had influenced me so much that I could say they were part of my journey through life.

The influences

Next time, I’ll talk more specifically about the musical influences that led me to create Whenever I Take as it is, because the creative act doesn’t come out of nowhere; it’s nourished by the cultural baggage we acquire throughout our lives and is more like an explanation of who we are and what we’ve experienced…
