Joachim Richard Carl Witt (born 22 February 1949 in Hamburg) showed an interest in music from a very early age, starting out as a guitarist and singer in various local bands, playing covers of groups such as The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

He graduated in 1967 and, over the following years, experimented in the arts, taking up photography, securing a record deal – although his music was not particularly well received at the time – and even trying his hand at theatre. But nothing fulfilled him like music, and after years of writing his own songs, he formed the krautrock band Duesenberg, influenced by West Coast American rock, with whom he went on to release three albums to considerable success.

Following that period, in the 80s, Witt embarked on a solo career, making the definitive leap to popularity within the Neue Deutsche Welle movement thanks to songs such as “Goldener Reiter” (1981), which established him as one of the most recognisable artists in German pop.

In 1998, the album “Bayreuth 1” achieved platinum status in Germany and Austria. The single “Die Flut”, featuring Peter Heppner, spent 34 weeks on the German charts, reaching number 2.

In 2000, he collaborated with X-Perience, performing a duet with Claudia on the song “Meaning of Life”. The track, which was included on X-Perience’s third album “Journey of Life” and as the B-side of the single “Am I Right”, was the first demonstration of the powerful contrast between Joachim’s deep and Claudia’s angelic voices.

But it would not be the last; in 2004, for Claudia’s debut with her solo project Angelzoom, Witt collaborated once more on a duet for the second single “Back in the Moment”, reaffirming the profound and epic beauty that emerged from their combined voices.

During the 2010s, Witt underwent a new artistic evolution, retaining her dark essence whilst incorporating electronic elements and lyrics that delved into more existential and personal themes, cementing her status as a long-standing artist beyond passing trends.

In 2021, Claudia collaborated with Witt for a third time on the song “Stern” for the Witt’s album “Rübezahls Reise”, in which it is clear that the chemistry between the two voices remains as strong as ever.
